Life in a Google world

It wasn’t so long ago that students went to the library to do the research for papers and projects. Now, they go to Google––like the rest of us.

A friend likes a certain Timex watch that doesn’t set off alarms at airport security. After a half dozen trips to local stores, he gave up and went to Google.

“I should have done it first,” he said. In a couple of minutes, he found exactly what he wanted at a store in Reading, PA.

“The price was right and I had the watch in a couple of days,” he added.

Why be so picky? Why not choose a watch from the display in a local store?

These are good questions. But Google is teaching us to expect more choices when we spend money. We want to do business with people who say, “Tell me exactly what you’re looking for and we’ll get it for you.”

It’s no different with insurance. One policy or one insurance company can’t fit every situation. That’s why it’s important to work with an insurance agent with a range of insurance companies.

Maybe we should change our name to Google Insurance.
