No one wants to buy insurance
Cut to the chase—no one wants to buy insurance.
In all the years I’ve been in the insurance business, no one
has ever rushed in, all excited about buying a policy. I would be
shocked if it did—even a little suspicious.
We all look forward to buying a home, a car, new equipment for a business
or a boat. But some of the fun quickly disappears when it comes writing
the check for insurance.
More often than not, buying insurance can seem like a pure waste of
money—money that could be better spent on something else. Just
about anything else.
You may have had a claim and were told that it wasn’t covered
by your policy. And you said, “Then why have I been paying for
insurance all these years?”
If such experiences may make you think insurance people are pretty
good at pulling the wool over your eyes, you may have a point.
All this may sound strange—even confusing—coming from
an insurance broker.
But let’s face it. For as long as anyone can remember, we’ve
tried to make people like insurance. It hasn’t worked.
If you want to find out where I’m going in this discussion of
insurance, see next edition of The Business Journal.
