You pay for havinga fire

When the fire department responds to a call, don’t be surprised to get a bill in the mail.

While property taxes cover basic fire department services, response calls are an extra charge.

And they can add up, too. The minimum charge seems to be about $800 and can be much higher, as much as $5,000 or more, if a number of trucks and fire fighters are involved. A small fire can run about $1200 to $1400.

If other townships are asked to respond, you can expect to receive a bill from them, too.

Your homeowner’s insurance policy may provide some coverage, perhaps $800. It may not apply if you live in the City of Mosinee or some Townships.

Everyone knows the cost of providing municipal quality services keeps rising. These charges are one way to help pay for them.

But to avoid a surprise bill, make sure you understand the situation where you live. Check with your town hall and insurance agent.

Check to make sure your homeowner’s policy provides you with adequate protection should you need fire department services. If it doesn’t you may want to obtain additional coverage. It’s the best way to avoid an unpleasant surprise.
