Mosinee Insurance Executive to Take Reigns of
Insurance Agents Association

On September 1, 2007, Thomas F. Helbach, president of Mosinee Insurance Agency, Inc. of Mosinee, becomes president of the 4,000 member Independent Insurance Agents of Wisconsin, the state’s largest insurance trade association.

“The insurance agents in Wisconsin have a big job ahead of them,” states Helbach. “The Internet and mass-marketed insurance products have widened our customers’ options. They can buy their insurance from many places today. As independent agents, we offer our clients the advice and guidance they won’t find elsewhere.”

Helbach expands on this idea. “I know hundreds of our agents, and they are true insurance experts. They are a valuable resource for insurance buyers. We can do an important job of showing the public how our knowledge and expertise can benefit families and businesses.”

“Before they talk to an insurance agent, many customers have done research, particularly on the Internet. That translates into higher expectations, especially for low prices. Independent agents differentiate themselves by making sure their clients have the proper insurance for their needs and lifestyles,” Helbach said.

Tom pointed out that local insurance agents can best understand the needs of local businesses. “We’re a mirror of Main Street,” he notes. “We feel the same pressure––higher energy costs, higher gasoline prices and tighter margins.”

Helbach sums up his views with these comments. “We take great pride in being independent insurance agents. This means our primary loyalty is to our customers. Like other businesses, we have products from a number of insurance companies on our shelves. This allows us to match a customer with the just the right product. In other words, one size does not fit all in either clothing or insurance.”

Along with leading the state association, which is headquartered in Madison, Helbach has served as the InsurPAC chair for Wisconsin since 2001. InsurPAC is the political action committee of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. He received the National InsurPAC Leadership Award in 2006. The members of Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America just re-elected Tom to another one-year term as a member of the board of directors of InsurPAC.

Helbach has been associated with Mosinee Insurance Agency since 1974. He and his wife, Lynne, have two sons and live in Mosinee, Wis.
